Sound & Recording Tweaks and Tricks

AAC to mp3

Although you can convert iTunes AAC music format to mp3 using iTunes, it will only work if you've imported your own CDs NOT if you have downloaded music from iTunes store. Therefore,
  • Create a playlist of the songs to be converted to mp3
  • Go to Edit/Preferences and left-click on the ADvanced tab
  • Left-click on Burning tab and ensure that Audio CD is selected
  • Return to the iTunes main screen, and select the playlist you want to convert, then left-click on Burn Disk in the bottom right-hand corner

Windows Sound Recorder doesn't play long enough

Windows Sound Recorder is set to play for 60 seconds, then it will stop. Follow these steps to increase the length of time it will run.
    • Begin a recording session until it stops at 60 secnds.
    • Save the file with a temporary name -- it will be saved as a .wav file -- then click on Edit and choose insert File. Select the file you've just created.
    • Re-open the file and look at the Length box on the Sound Recorder: it says 120 seconds
    • Repeat this process until you've reached the required length.

Poor sound quality when copying LPs onto CDs

This is often due the computer trying to use 2 line-ins, one on the sound card and the other one on the webcam. Therefore,
      • disconnect the webcam from the USB port

      • or
      • mute the sound in the Mic section of Volume Control.
